Once again, a stunned community is burying its dead while the world tries to make sense of the senseless. The horrific attacks on Muslim worshipers in Christchurch, New Zealand has been felt around the globe, and certainly here in Western Massachusetts.

To the Muslim members of our community, I extend my deepest sympathy. My heart is filled with sorrow by this unfathomable act of hatred. For those who are struggling and in need of support during this difficult time, please know that resources are available.

To all members of our community: We must be the change we wish to see in our world. I urge you to join me in redoubling our efforts to combat Islamophobia, racism, xenophobia, and bigotry in all its forms. Let’s dedicate ourselves to living our values of kindness, inclusion and trust, and to building a community where all feel safe and welcome; where diversity is celebrated, and hatred and prejudice have no place.
