Bridge-building during Ramadan (gazettenet.com ) By CHERYL B.
WILSON- Staff Writer
AMHERST - The call to prayer at sundown marked the breaking of the daily
Ramadan fast Sunday at the University of Massachusetts as hundreds of
Muslims and non-Muslims attended an event billed as "Building Bridges
for America" in the Campus Center Auditorium. The bridges were built
informally between Muslims and Jews, Muslims and Christians and Muslims
and people of no particular religious persuasion during the event, which
included readings from the Quran, a song by children at a local Muslim
school, poetry and speeches, as well as prayers and a buffet. "Just as a
bridge connects one place to another, a relationship connects one person
to another," said the Rev. Nancy Dann, Christian chaplain at Baystate
Medical Center, and mother of a teen-ager who converted to Islam.

We at Islamic Society Of
Western MA, along with the American Muslim community are deeply saddened
by the immense loose human life from Tuesday’s tragic events. Our
thoughts and prayers are with the families, friends and loved ones of
those who have been injured and those who have died. We applaud the
heroes from all Fire Departments, Police Departments and Emergency
Medical Services and extend our gratitude to all participating in the
ongoing rescue and relief efforts. American Muslims wholly condemn the
vicious and cowardly acts of terrorism. We join with all Americans in
calling for the swift apprehension and punishment of the perpetrators of
these crimes against humanity. May we all stand together through these
hard times to promote peace and love over violence and hate
