- WEST SPRINGFIELD, Mass. (WWLP) - Religious leaders said
vandals are targeting the Islamic Society in West Springfield. Islamic
Society president Dr. Mohammad Bajwa said that there have been four instances
of vandalism at the Amostown Road Center in the past two weeks.
- Car windows were smashed as well as a new door entrance to the
building and two windows in the rear. West Springfield Police Captain John
Ferrerini said detectives are investigating two reports of malicious damage at
the Islamic Center.
- Dr. Bajwa also said there has been an outpouring of sympathy
from other religious organizations. They are planning an interfaith vigil of
support Thursday night at 5:30 at the Islamic Society of Western
Massachusetts.
- For weeks the Islamic Center in West
Springfield has been cleaning up broken glass and listening to threatening
phone calls. On Thursday night, the interfaith community came together to
show their solidarity
