Activities |
Fasting in Ramadhan is obligatory on every sane, adult Muslim male/female. It was required of Muslims during the Second year of Hijrah (migration of Prophet Muhammad). The way of fasting is to abstain from eating, drinking any thing may pass the lips, and (intimate) relations between spouses from Dawn to Sunset, and Children over seven year are to be encouraged to fast gradually to that they get used to fasting. One must have the Intention during the night to fast the following day of Ramadhan. It Is sufficient however, to make the Intention to fast Ramadhan at the beginning of the month. Who is allowed to break his/her fast:
However, days of fasting so missed are to be made up when the cause of exemption is over, any time after Ramadhan excluding the Eid days. Full exemption from Fasting is granted to those who are permanently incapacitated by reason of old age or an incurable disease. They, however, would substitute each day they so cannot fast by feeding a poor person for one day or paying the cost of food sufficient to feed a poor person one day for each day so missed. Fasting is invalidated if a person, during fasting, intentionally eats, drinks, smokes, vomits, or lets an object pass through the throat. Fasting so invalidated should be made up after Ramadhan. However, if a person breaks his fasting by the commission of intercourse, a serious Kaffarah “penitence” applies. Fasting remains Valid if an act of breaking the fast should occur through forgetting completely about fasting. Putting or pouring drops into the eye, bathing or washing the body, wearing perfume, cleaning the mouth and rinsing it with water only or Misuaak, with out swallowing, do not break the fast. (According to the Qur’aan, Muslim women, they do not display their beauty, perfume and ornaments except to their husbands and Mahram relatives. (Qur’aan 24:31)
