Over the years, prayer has always been a central part of the inaugural ceremonies. Clergy of all faiths have been invited to offer invocations. Often in our lifetime, Rev. Billy Graham was called to lead prayer, quoting liberally from Sacred Scripture, for example in 1989: “Unless the Lord builds the house, they labor in vain who build it” (Ps. 127). Many, if not all, of the clergy recalled our history as enshrined in some of our most sacred documents, for example: “One nation under God, indivisible, with liberty and justice for all.”.more: BOSTONPILOT.COM

Tunisia — perhaps the first Iftar at the White House, more than 200 years ago. And some of you, as you arrived tonight, may have seen our special display, courtesy of our friends at the Library of Congress — the Koran that belonged to Thomas Jefferson.
