“Most Merciful” is a noun derived from the verb “to have mercy upon”. As an idiom, mercy means condescension, warm-heartedness and pity. And to be merciful is to show human understanding for others. “Most Merciful” is one of the 99 God’s names, and this name is derived from mercy that is related to our God. “Most Gracious, Most Merciful” is one of hyperbole forms in Arabic language. And Allah, to whom be ascribed all perfection and majesty, is the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful to the present world and the afterworld. No one can imagine that Allah’s attributes see saw between strength and weakness. Furthermore, you have to keep in your mind that Allah’s attributes represent absolute perfection. Read Allah’s saying: “Allah is never unjust in the least degree…” (AL-NISSAAA – VERSE 40)
We notice here the use of the hyperbole form of the attribute “unjust”. Some believe that Allah’s saying, “unjust to his servants” does not deny unjust, but it denies only the intensiveness of unjust. We say to those people.. “You don’t understand the true meaning, because Allah, to whom be ascribed all perfection and majesty, does not do injustice to His servants.”
The first holy verse addresses the servant and the second verse addresses the servants. And the servants are Allah’s creatures. If every one of these creatures is dealt unjustly (in the least degree), then the injustice will be plentiful even if it is slight in terms if its quantity because a large number of human beings will be afflicted by injustice. Accordingly, both two verses deny injustice from our God, to whom be ascribed all perfection and majesty. But the hyperbole from of “unjust (in the least degree) to His servants” is used because of great number of people who this verse is applied to. Lets go back to “Most Gracious, Most Merciful”. Allah is the Most Merciful in the present world because there are a lot of people who Allah’s Mercy takes care of. Consequently, Allah’s Mercy in the Present World encompasses believer, unbeliever and disobedient. Allah also grants His servants their living essentials and He never blames them for wrong doings. Their God is providing both believers and disbelievers with the means of subsistence. Hence, Allah’s Mercy encompasses all His creatures: the believers and disbelievers in their present world. But in the afterworld, the matter is different. Allah is Most Merciful toward the believers only. Therefore, disbelievers and atheists are expelled from Allah’s Mercy. For this reason, the number of those who are encompassed by Allah’s Mercy in the present world is greater than those who are encompassed by Allah’s Mercy in afterworld. Where does the hyperbole form come from? Hyperbole occurs in donation and everlasting donation. God’s blessings in the afterworld are greater than those in the present world. And the Divine Mercy concludes a lot of attributes that are related to our God. They are Grantor, Forgiver, the provider, the Grateful, the Generous and the Conductor. And Allah’s Mercy overflows all the creatures from the moment they are created to the moment Allah judges all men. In addition, God had Mercy upon us when He created us from absolute nothingness without asking Him to do so. On this occasion God, the Great and Almighty, said: “Has there not been over Man a long period of time, when he was nothing – (AL-INSAAN – VERSE 1)
God also had mercy upon us when He created this vast Universe, providing us with the means of subsistence before we were created. The sun keeps its distance from the earth unchangeable, and this unchangeable distance guarantees us fixed amount of temperature. In case the distance changes, the hotness and coldness will kill us. And the air that surrounds us contains the needful oxygen for breathing process, and oxidation of foodstuff in order to provide the body with the energy. And this energy helps the body perform its duties. The water, which represents the majority of the global area, has unlimited functions in human body, besides its use for cleanness which protects man from the most serious diseases and epidemics. God’s mercy exists in the power of air which enables the natural birds and artificial planes to fly high in the sky. God also provides water with a peculiarity that enables the huge ships to carry people and their luggage far away. God eternally knew that the earth would be populated by Adam’s offspring, and there would be more advanced and modern means of transportation. And these means would make travel so easy that man can visit far countries such as America and Australia Continent. The stage of universe preparation was not restricted only to provide the primitive components of life at the beginning of creation, but God, the Great and Almighty, has created materials and components in the universe, and He knows that those materials and components will be used after thousands or millions of years when the building advances on the surface of the globe. Take, for example, the element of petrol which represents the most important resources of energy used by planes, vehicles and machines. Look at all elements which have been used by human being in manufacturing modern inventions. Were those elements found by chance inside the earth? It is the very ignorance to imagine, as communists think, that those elements were found by chance, because the fact, which the Holy Quran has established and has been accepted by mind, is that God, the Great and Almighty, is the Creator of those elements. Consequently, God said: “Allah is the Creator of all things, and He is the Guardian and Disposer of all affairs.” (ZUMAR – VERSE 62)
After that God stored the elements inside the earth so that man could make benefit of them when he is in need of them. We can ask ourselves this question, “Could man move to places which are far away from each other without the means of transportations? In fact, man could not travel or keep contact with relatives in another country without using the means of transportations and communication. After creating the universe, God prepared wombs inside our mothers’ abdomens for us where we can get our food without any effort. God says in the Holy Hadith: “I am the Most Merciful; I created the womb and derived its name from mine.” God’s mercy also reveals itself through the food, which is grown in the barren land. Accordingly, Allah, the Great and Almighty, says: “Then behold (O man!) The tokens of Allah’s Mercy! How He gives life to the earth after its death” (ROOM – VERSE 50) Furthermore, God has created night to be a lodging for us in order to find in it calmness and peace after hard work, and He has also created the day for working and earning our living. Allah says in His Holly Book: “It is our of His mercy that He has made for you Night and Day, – that ye may rest therein, and that ye may seek of His Grace; – and in order that ye may be grateful” (QASAS – VERSE 73)
And it is out of His Mercy that He has sent the prophets with heavenly missions to take human beings out from darkness to lightness; and He has sent His prophet Mohammed (God’s blessing and peace be upon him) with the true religion as a mercy to human beings. Allah says: “And this a Book which We have revealed as a blessing, so follow it and be righteous, that ye may receive mercy.” (AL-ANAAM – VERSE 155) “Do ye wonder that there hath come to you a reminder from your Lord, through a man of your own people, to warn you, so that ye may fear Allah and haply receive His mercy” (AL-AARAAF – VERSE 63) And He said: “When the Quran is read, listen to it with attention, and hold your peace: that ye may receive Mercy” (AL-AARAAF – VERSE 204)
The Holy Quran, which has been revealed to the last of the prophets, Mohammed, is the greatest Mercy which God, the Great and Almighty, has given generously to Adam’s offspring. The Holy Quran has guided believers to the brightness of faith and transfers them from weak faiths, which have been based on illusions and assumptions, to the straight faith, which is based on certainty. He, who believes in the Holy Quran and follows its commands and avoid its prohibitions, will be rewarded mercy, healing and glad tidings. Accordingly, God said: “We have sent down to thee the Book explaining all things, a Guide, a Mercy and Glad Tidings to Muslims” (AL-AARAAF –VERESE 52) “We send down (stage by stage) of the Quran that which is a healing and a mercy to those who believe” (AL –ISRAA – VERSE 82)
Allah, to whom belongs might and majesty, also said: “These are verses of the Wise Book, -A guide and a mercy to the Doers of Good”. (LUQMAAN – VERSES 2-3)
“Now then hath come unto you a clear (sign) from your Lord,- and a guide and a mercy.” (AK- ANAAM- VERSE 157)
It is out of His mercy that God has guided us to the straight way in order to gain His mercy, so Allah says: “For the Mercy of Allah is (always) near to those who do good” (AL-AARAAF – VERSE 56)
By that, Allah has made it clear that His mercy is near to those who are believers and who are obedient. Consequently, they are rewarded mercy; they are saved from the present world calamities and resurrected on the Day of Judgment safe. Hasn’t Allah saved Hood (on him peace) from his nation, Aad, who disbelieved in God and accused their prophet of foolishness and they were about to kill him and his followers. By that, Allah says: “We saved him and those who adhered to him, by our mercy and we cut off the roots of those who rejected our signs and did not believe” (AL- AARAAF – VERSE 72)
And when Salih (on him be peace) ordered his nation not to get close to the she-camel, and leave it eat from God’s land and not to slaughter it, they were seized by the blast and Allah saved Salih and his nation. Therefore Allah, the Great and Almighty, said: “When Our Degree issued, we saved Salih and those who believed with him, by (special) Grace from Us- and from the ignominy of that Day. For thy Lord – He is they Strong One, and the Mighty.” (HOOD – VERSE 66)
And this is what Allah says about Shuaib: “When Our Degree issued, We saved Shuaib and those who believed with him, by (special) mercy from us: but the (mighty) blast did seize the wrong – doers, and they lay prostrate in their homes by the morning” (HOOD – VERSE 94)
In this topic we must not forget seven sleepers of Ephesus and how God, the Great and Almighty, made them on example of the straight faith, which is accompanied by truth by word and deed and acquires God’s mercy. The story of seven sleepers of Ephesus is the one of every nation who escape from the tyrants who compels them to disbelieve in God. Consequently, seven sleepers of Ephesus escaped and hide inside a cave. God has described them in His Holy Quran: “They were youths who believed in their Lord, and we increased them in guidance.” (AL-KAHF – FROM VERSE 13)
We knew that the companions of the cave were not old men or a group of women. They were young and strong, and they believed it their God. A reward, their God increased them in guidance. God has mentioned those companions, saying: “But to those who receive guidance, He increases their guidance, and bestows on them their piety and restraint (from evil) (MUHAMMED – VERSE 17)
Allah wants to draw our attention that He supports the believer by guiding him to the straight faith. Those companions feared for their faith and escaped to the cave lest they should be forced to disbelieve in God by their rulers. Read God’s saying: “When ye turn away from them and the things they worship other than Allah, betake yourselves to the cave, your Lord will shower His mercies on you dispose of your affair towards comfort and ease” (AL- KAHF – VERSE 16)
God has showered His mercy on the companion of the cave because they remained faithful to their belief. He also did not make them feel they were oppressed, so as not to live in uneasiness and fear of being discovered or followed by atheistic tyrants. In addition to these facts, God removed from companions’ life the anxiety of looking for food and drink, because the search could expose them to danger. In this way, Allah saved them by His mercy from every worldly distress. Job, the prophet of Allah, kept patient when distress increased, and his faith remained strong. As a reward, God, the Great and Almighty, removed the distress that was on him and showered him with mercy.
Thereby God, be He blessed, said: “and remember job, when he cried to his Lord Truly distress has seized me, but Thou art the Most Merciful of those that are Merciful” So we listened to him: We removed the distress that was on him, and we restored his people to him, and doubled their number, as a grace from ourselves, and a thing for commemoration, for all who serve us. (AL-ANBIYAA – VERSES 83-84)
God, the Great and Almighty said about Ismail, Idris and Zul-Kifl God’s blessing & peace be upon them and upon our prophet Mohammed: “And remember Ismail, Idris and Zul-Kifl, all (men) of constancy and patience; we admitted them to our mercy: for they were of the Righteous ones” (AL-ANBIYAA – VERSES 85-86) And God’s mercy doesn’t restricted on obedient believers but it extends to include their progeny after them bestowal of honors upon them and calmness for their souls. And we saw this in the story of the righteous man and the wall that God, the Great and Almighty said about it: “as for the wall, it belonged to two youths, orphans, in the Town; there was, beneath it; a buried treasure, to which they were entitled; their father had been a righteous man; so thy Lord desired that they should attain their age of full strength and get out their treasure – a mercy (and favour) from thy Lord. I did it not of my own accord. Such is the interpretation of (those things) over which thou wast unable to hold patience” (AL-KAHF – VERSE 82)
There are many Holy Koranic verses which made the belief of God be He blessed and obedience a reason to gain his mercy, God, the Great and almighty said: “And obey Allah and the Messenger; that ye may obtain mercy” (AALI-IMRAAN –VERSE: 132)
The biography of Mohammed (God’s blessing and peace upon him) is perhaps the best evidence of the strong relation between the servant’s belief and the mercy that he deserves. For this reason, the prophet Mohammed was encompassed by God’s Mercy and care, form the moment being was honored by his birth to the moment he breathed his last.
Accordingly, God, be He blessed, said: “If ye help mot (the prophet), (it is no matter): for Allah did indeed help him, when the Unbelievers drove him out, being the second of the two they two were in the Cave, and he said to his companion, “Have no fear, for Allah is with us”: then Allah sent down His peace upon him, and strengthened him with forces which ye saw not, and humbled to the depths the word of the Unbelievers. But the word of Allah is exalted to the heights: for Allah is exalted in might, Wise” (TAWBAH – VERSE 40)
Hasn’t Allah Mercy taken care of him when Unbelievers decided to kill him while he was in his house? What was the result? God, the Great and Almighty, blinded them when he left his house peace fully for achieving his mission. Therefore, Allah, to whom belongs might and majesty, said: “and we have put a bar in front of them, and further, We have covered them up; so that they can’t see” (YAASEEN – VERSE 9)
How many violent battles did Mohammed (God’s blessing and peace be upon him) entered the leader of his companions? And how many treacherous attempts did the Unbelievers contrived to get rid of him and his mission? But hoe impossible!!
It is out of His mercy, that God took care of His prophet and his mission, in order to guide human beings to the light of belief. God the Great and Almighty said: “…but Allah will not allow but that His light should be perfected, even though the Unbelievers may detest (it)” (AL-TAWBAH – FROM VERSE 32)
And He said: “… but Allah will complete His light, even though the Unbelievers may detest (it)” (AL-SAFF – VERSE: 8 )
And not only was Mohammed (God’ blessing and peace be upon him) taken under God’s Mercy’s wing, but he, himself, was mercy. Those who search for Mohammed’s mission and its influences on the world history will recognize immediately that he is mercy to all the humanity; and that mercy has taken care of both Unbelievers and Believers, regardless the quantity and manner. God said: “We sent thee not, but as a Mercy for all creatures” (AL-ANBIYAAA – VERSE 107) It is out of His mercy that Allah has inscribed for Himself Mercy as He has mentioned in the Holy Quraan: “He hath inscribed for Himself (the rule of) Mercy. That He will gather you together for the Day of Judgment, there is no doubt whatever” (AL-ANAAM – VERSE 12) And as God, to whom be ascribed all perfection and majesty, said: “Say: Peace be on you; your Lord hath inscribed for Himself (the rule of) Mercy” (AL-ANAAM – VERSE 54)
And this inscription doesn’t disclaim that mercy is an origin for Him and belongs to His self. In order to understand this, we have to realize that Allah’s attributes don’t force Him to behave in accordance with them. But we can sometimes see that Allah treats some of His creatures in a merciless way, because if He wishes, He could do so.
Accordingly, God, the Greater and Almighty, is neither ruled by others nor obliged to do anything. And in spite of this, God has chosen to have the at most mercy on His Creatures. Furthermore, God’s Mercy has showered upon those who believe and disbelieve, the obedient and disobedient, animals and plants. Mercy has even showered upon un-living things. God said in His Holy Book: “He said: ‘I afflicts my punishment on whom I will; but my mercy extendeth to all things” (AL-AARAAF – VERSE 156) “Our Lord! Thou embracest all things, in Mercy and Knowledge” (GHAFIR – VERSE 7)
But this is not the case in the Afterworld. God’s mercy will shower only the believers in both the present world and the afterworld. And God will also forgive their wrong doings, and have His Mercy on them and their reward will be Gardens of Eternity. For that reason Allah, the Great and Almighty, says: “On them will Allah pour His Mercy; for Allah is exalted in power, wise” (AL-TAWBAH – VERSE 71)
“Then those who believe in Allah, and hold fast to Him – soon will He admit them to Mercy and Grace” (AL-NISAAA – VERSE 175)
“Soon will Allah admit them to His mercy; for Allah is Oft-Forgiving. Most Merciful” (AL-TAWBAH – VERSE 99)
If we search for God’s Name (Most Gracious, Most Merciful) in the Quranic Verses, we will make sure that Allah has encompassed the present world and the afterworld with His Grace. Take, for example, His saying: “O my father! Serve not Satan: for Satan is a rebel against (Allah) Most Gracious. O my father I fear lest a Chastisement afflict thee from (Allah) Most Gracious, so that thou become to Satan a friend” (MARYAM – VERSE 44- 45)
We have seen that the name (Most Gracious) has been mentioned twice, while the name (Most Merciful) hasn’t. The reason is that God’s Grace encompasses all His creatures in the present world. To assure this fact, our God, the Great and Almighty, granted a respite to Satan till the Day of Judgment. And He also respites A’zar despite the fact that he insisted on his disbelief and polytheism. Look attentively to God’s saying: “In order that thou mightest rehears unto them what we send down unto thee by inspiration; yet do they reject (Him), the Most Gracious” (AL-RAAD – VERSE 30)
“Say: ‘Whoever goes astray, (Allah) Most Gracious extends, (the rope) to them, until, when they see the warming of Allah (being fulfilled) – either in punishment or in (the approach of) the Hour, – they will at length realize who is worst in position, and (who) weakest in forces” (MARYAM – VERSE 75)
And in spite of the unbelief of the disbelievers, and the aberration of the errant, we find that The Right God –to whom belongs might and majesty, contains them in his mercy, so he gives them time and extend for them the time, that they may remember or to fear. While the verses that the name of The Most Gracious was mentioned are showing the containment of mercy for all creatures in the world, we find that the name (Most Merciful) doesn’t mentioned mostly except with faithful believers or the repentant penitents and this is become clear when God said: “To them I turn; for I am oft- returning, most merciful” (AL-BAQARAH – VERSE 192)
And from completeness of mercy unbelievers that He is not punishing polytheist and disobedient immediately of their sins, but He extend for them the time, so they maybe return. In this God -be He blessed- said: “If Allah were to punish men according to what they deserve, He would not leave on the back of the (earth) a single living creature: but He gives them respite for a stated Term: when their Term expires, verily Allah has in His sight all His servants. (Fatir – verse 45) He takes every body then he covers his people by His Mercy, then He protect them from His Hell’s punishment, and he lodges them in His wide paradises.
Even if God’s Mercy encompasses all human beings in the present world, this doesn’t deny the believer being distinguished by a special share of Mercy. Granting Mercy to disbelievers is clear when God has saved their lives and respite them to the moment of death. In addition, God doesn’t deprive them of blessings. On the other hand, the believer is rewarded calm and decent life in both the present world and the afterworld. In fact, God, the Great and Almighty, has endowed prophet Mohammed’s nation with uncountable mercies. One of these mercies is the Holy Quraan, which is considered the most important. God also bestowed Mercy and pity on His prophet Mohammed –God’s blessing and peace on him-. God’s mercy on Mohammed has reflected on his companions’ lots of influences and blessings which did not run out from the beginning of his mission until these days. It will be enough to mention that Mohammed –God’s blessing and peace upon him- has taught his companions that whoever has not mercy on other won’t deserve mercy.
God, to whom belongs might and majesty, says: “Now hath come unto you a Messenger from amongst yourselves, it grieves Him hath ye should suffer, ardently anxious is He over you; to the believers is he most kind and merciful” (AL-TAWBAH – VERSE 128)
God has also decided to ordain mercy and compassion in the believers’ hearts. Consequently, God, be He blessed said: “And we ordained in the hearts of those who followed him compassion and mercy” (HADEED – VERSE 27)
“Mohammed is the messenger of Allah, and those who are with him are strong against unbelievers, (but) compassionate amongst each other” (Fath – verse 29)
And it is out of His Mercy that Allah has made the Day of Resurrection so easy for believers that they can pass the trial and performs their duty, which they have burdened themselves with voluntarily. Then they get ultimately at eternal happiness which is free from misery, agony and boredom. Those who do good shall have ten times as much to their credit, and he who does evil shall only be recompensed according to his evil. For that reason Allah –be He blessed- said: “If any do good he will have better than it, and they will be secure from terror that Day” (AL-NAMIL – VERSE 89)
“He that doeth good shall have ten times as much to his credit, he that doeth evil shall only be recompensed according to his evil: no wrong shall be done unto them” (AL-ANAAM – VERSE 160)
Allah – the Great and Almighty- said: “And if anyone earns any good, we shall give him an increase of good in respect thereof: for Allah if Oft-Forgiving Grateful” (AL-BAQARAH – VERSE 261)
In the Holy Hadeeth, Mohammed, -God’s blessing and peace be upon him- has said that Allah prescribed virtues and evils and made it clear that if anyone intends to do good and doesn’t do it, he will be rewarded for it. And if he –God, be He blessed- will give him ten times as much to his credit. On the other hand, if anyone decides to do evil, but he refrains from doing it, he will be rewarded for it. Furthermore our God, the Great and Almighty, has left the door of repentance and forgiveness wide –open for those who are ready to repent after they have done wrong. In that connection, God, the Great and Almighty, said: “Say: ‘O my servants who have transgressed against their souls! Despair not of the mercy of Allah; for Allah forgives all sins, for He is Oft-forgiving, Most Merciful’ ” (AL-ZUMAR – VERSE 53)
And God –to whom be ascribed all perfection and mighty said: “But if they cease, Allah is Oft-Forgiving, Most Merciful” (AL-BAQARAH – VERSE 192) And Allah, the Great and Almighty said: “Except for those that repent (even) after that, and make amends; for verily Allah is Oft-Forgiving, Most Merciful” (AALI-IMRAAN – VERSE 89) And Allah –be He blessed- said: “If any of you did evil in ignorance, and thereafter repented, and amended (his conduct) lo! He is Oft-Forgiving Most Merciful” (AL-ANAAM – VERSE 54)
It is out of His Mercy that Allah has opened the doors of blessings for His believers in order to incline the scale of their good and lead them to eternal happiness. Truly, God –be He blessed- has varied for His people the resources of good such as prayer, fast and pilgrimage; and He has promised to reward the beneficent for a tiny amount of good he’s done once in a while. In that connection, Allah, the Great and Almighty, said: “Then shall anyone who has done an atom’s weight of good, see it!” (AL-ZALZALAH – VERSE 7)
The smile on your felloe man’s face is a charity, and removing harm from the road is a charity and the kind word is also a charity. Furthermore, the bite of food you put into your wife’s mouth is also a charity (favor). What a great mercy it is!!
God, the Great and Almighty, look for us the means of safety and gaining the paradise, and prepare for us ways of good, which come between hell, and us God forbid that. What we should do is to follow the right way in order to avoid the hell. Everything in the universe is a mercy from God -be He blessed even if it seems to lookers to be pains and distress. The Devils, wild animals, snakes, scorpions and calamities which afflict man and his family and his hearth are considered mercy on God’s creatures. It is out of his wisdom that Allah has created for human lots of enemies who always pursue him. And in case human is unable to put up turns to God for safety. In that way it is clear to us that Mercy is hidden inside indignation. There is no doubt that what brings man closer to his creator is the very charity and the very good, even if it seems to the shallow minded people that this indignation has no justification. The believer should ask God to encompass him with His Grace in both the present would and the afterworld. Therefore, supplication for God’s mercy is one of traits of faithful believers who fear God’s punishment and they are certain that Allah is truth, paradise is truth and the hell is also truth. Let’s read God’s saying: “On no soul doth Allah place a burden greater than it can bear. It gets every good that it earns, and it suffers every ill that it earns. (Pray) Our Lord! Condemn us not if we forger or fall into error; Our Lord! Lay not on us a burden like that which Thou didst lay on those before us; Our Lord! Lay not on us a burden greater than we have strength to bear. Blot out our sins, and grant us forgiveness. Have mercy on us. Thou are our protector; grant us victory over unbelievers” (AL- BAQARAH – VERSE 286)
And His saying: “He said: ‘O Nooh! He is not of thy family: for his conduct is unrighteous. So ask not of Me that of which thou hast no knowledge! I give thee counsel, test thou become one of the ignorants!’ Nooh said: ‘O my Lord! I do seek refuge with Thee, from asking Thee for that of which I have no knowledge and unless Thou forgive me and have Mercy on me, I should indeed be among the losers’” (HOOD – VERSES 46, 47)
And His saying: “They have the hope of the Mercy of Allah: and Allah is Oft-Forgiving, most merciful” (AL-BAQARAH – VERSE 218)
And His saying: “O lord! (they say), let not our hearts deviate now after Thou hast guided us, but grant us mercy from Thee” (AALI-IMRAAN – VERSE: 8 )
And His saying: “Our Lord! We believer; then do Thou forgive us, and have mercy upon us: for Thou art the best of those who show mercy!” (AL-MUMINOON – VERSE 109)
And believers must not think that he believe by his own willingly, and dutiful must not think that he obeys by his pure willing and ability, because transition from unbelief to faith (belief) and from sin to obedience is by God’s mercy and success, that we read His saying: “and were it not for the grace and mercy of Allah on you, not one of you would ever have been pure: but Allah doth purity whom He pleases: and Allah is one who hears and knows (all things)” (AN-NOOR – VERSE 21)
God’s mercy is absolute like all His attributes; it is true that Allah has mentioned that in several Quranic verses. God –the Great and Almighty- said: “He said: ‘I afflict my punishment on whom I will; but my mercy extended to all things” (AL-AARAAF –VERSE 156)
And Allah, be He blessed, also said: “This day let no reproach be (cast) on you; Allah will forgive you, and He is the Most Merciful of those who show mercy” (YOUSUF – VERSE 92)
And His saying: “but Allah is the best to take care (of him), and He is the Most Merciful of those who show mercy” (YOUSUF – VERSE 64)
Our God is the Most Merciful and His Mercy has encompassed every thing. It is the absolute mercy, which has encompassed all the creatures and all the human beings, including all the unbelievers. And it is strange that the atheists and the disobedient always try to suggest doubt about the unlimited of mercy. By that means, they say: “How can God’s mercy be absolute despite of the fact that He would send some of His creature to the hell and make them suffer the more violent punishment? They are trying to find an excuse for themselves in case they have discovered the falseness of their beliefs they insisted on in the present life. We have, on more than one occasion, made clear that they are shallow minded and ignorant of the God’s perfect conception.
We’ve said, as a response to their limit understanding, that Allah’s mercy has encompassed all his creatures the moment Allah has created them from nothingness. Furthermore, Allah, the Great and Almighty, has undertaken to provide His all creatures with the elements of life, such as water, air, food and other things which are uncountable. In return, Allah, to whom be ascribed all perfection and majesty, has asked His people to worship and obey Him, and this worship is no more than performing some duties and abstaining from others. For compliance with performing and abstaining, God guarantees calm and good life for those who believe in Him. Consequently, if believers observe God’s mercy in the present world as well as the afterworld. On the other hand, those who disobey and do not worship Allah are deprived of God’s mercy in the afterworld. If God treats His servants equally on the Day of resurrection, He will be unjust to those who are obedient and good. Therefore, God’s justice requires of Him to be Graceful in the present world and, consequently, His mercy encompasses all His people; it also requires of Him to be most merciful in the afterworld, and His mercy encompasses His good and obedient servants in the afterworld.
However, torturing the vicious souls that are accustomed to disobedience might be mercy from Allah for purification of those souls from their evils and stubbornness, and when God admits them to Gardens, they become pure and virtuous.
God is the One and only and has lots of attributes; and every attribute has a field of activity. So mercy has its own requirements and revenge also has its own. When the requirements of mercy are fulfilled, then there will be mercy, and it is the same for revenge. That means if the requirements of divine revenge are achieved, then there will be also revenge, and there is no contradiction between the tow cases.
The messenger –God’s blessing and peace upon him- has said: “when God foreordained the creatures, He inscribed over His throne this phrase, my mercy overcame my anger” so, as an evidence, the amount of mercy people are rewarded is larger than the amount of punishment. In that connection, they are discharged from duty till the sexual maturity.
Glory to my God, the Greatest! God, to whom belongs might and majesty is Gracious and Merciful, and at the same time He is severe in punishment
