An international symbol of peace now stands in West Springfield.
Sunday, the Grace Lutheran Church dedicated a peace pole in front oftheirchurch on Westfield Street.
It carries the message “May Peace Prevail on Earth” in four different languages.
Sunday, the members of Grace Lutheran were joined by guests from the Islamic Society of Western Massachusetts, to show unity between different religions in reaching for peace.
“We have so much conflict in our world, so many things coming at us every day,” says pastor Derek Harman. “To have an opportunity to really focus on peace and neighborly gestures and reaching out to one another in love and respect is really important right now.”
Church members plan on turning the area around the pole into a peace garden next spring.
