On February 3, 2012, Many Muslim groups and community leaders gathered at Foley Square, NYC to demonstrate against some of the outright practices by the NYPD under Commissioner Ray Kelly. These practices include illegal surveillance of Muslim communities, allowing a hateful Islamophobic film, “The Third Jihad”, to be shown to nearly 1,500 officers in NYPD facilities, and lying on multiple occasions regarding their actions. The Muslim leadership of NY demands accountability, including the resignation of Commissioner Ray Kelly and Paul Browne, retraining of those officers who were subjected to watching “The Third Jihad”, and independent oversight of the NYPD.
